JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound dropped their 2009 debut, "Beat of Our Own Drum," to excellent reviews and have recently followed it up with the release of the single, "Get It Together" (which features a soulful, Wilco-approved cover of "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart"). The band has collaborated with Syl Johnson, Daniel Bitney (Tortoise), Nate Evans (the Impressions), and have appeared on WGN-TV and BBC 6 in the UK. The band has been praised by the Chicago Tribune, Sun-Times, TimeOut, and the New York Times, and has cut live sessions for taste-making indie stations WFMU and KDHX.
