01/13/2013 - 10 Must-Have Party Gadgets

As a lover of both gadgets and great parties, I put together a list of my favorite party gizmos. There's nothing worse than an unprepared host. You know who they are. They'll tap a keg and fill their fridge with a haphazard spread of cheap beer and harsh liquors. On the surface, everything's great. But within moments, you find there are no ice cubes, no bottle openers, no shot glasses, no straws...the entire place is like a prehistoric cave.

Well, share this blog with them and maybe, just maybe, they'll get the hint.

1. Corona Lime Slicer

The popularity of citrus in beers continues to rise, and very few of us are adept to slicing the perfect wedge. Usually, I'll get one good wedge per lime. The others are either too fat or too skinny. The Corona Lime Slicer is the fast and easy way to get that perfect cut every time. It also works great for slicing lemons for your iced tea and mixed drinks!

$15.95 at KegWorks.com.

2. Whiskey Stones

Ice is great and all, but what about when your drink starts to get warm? Assuming you're drinking slowly enough for that to happen, you're left with a watered down version of the beverage you once loved. Enter the Whiskey Stones. Made by soapstone workers in Vermont, these little guys keep your drink cold without watering it down. Just pop them in the freezer for a couple hours and you're good to go. Then, rinse and repeat!

$19.99 for a set of nine at ThinkGeek.com.

3. Fridge Magnet Bottle Opener

Finding an opener can be a pain in the bottle neck, especially if you've already managed to open and down a few. The Fridge Magnet Bottle Opener is made from a plate of shiny stainless steel and fitted with a magnetic rubber backing. It magically sticks to your fridge and lets you easily open a bottle with one hand, so you can grab your buddy a beer, too.

$20 at UncommonGoods.com.

4. Sidekick Shot Glass 4-Pack

Here's your chance to get really creative. These nifty little shot glasses let you fill the bottom with some food or food-safe fun for a twist on the boring shot. Anything is game, from mini glowsticks, Pop Rocks, and Jelly Beans, to dry ice, bacon, and maybe even an engagement ring!

$19.99 for a set of four at ThinkGeek.com.

5. Fizz Saver Dispenser

Fizz saver dispenser keeps drinks carbonated and dispenses right from your fridge or counter top. Simply twist the dispenser onto the top of a plastic 2-liter bottle, then invert the bottle to dispense drinks into your glass. Fizz will last until the bottle is empty. Great for use at home, office, camping, entertaining and more.

6. Cell Phone Plug Holder

How many times have you left your phone to charge at a party, only to return and find it bathing in a puddle of sticky beer? This handy little shelf hangs around your plug to give your phone a nice little bed to rest on while it juices up. Comes in four colors.

$7.98 at Solutions.com.

7. Pick Your Nose Cups

Okay, it's not really a gadget, but give your guests something to talk about and they may just end up laughing so hard they shoot a cocktail out of their nose. These hilarious cups come in 12 different styles of schnozzes, and everyone who comes to your party will be raving about them.

$8.95 for a set of 24 at BaronBob.com.

8. Thirst Extinguisher

When the party starts to heat up and your guests need to quench their thirst, be a hero and stroll around the room offering up your drink of choice. Firefighter outfit and sliding pole not included.

$34 at IwantOneofThose.com.

9. Ice Jacket®

Why serve your spirits on ice when you can serve them IN ice? Place a bottle onto the base grip of your Ice Jacket®, slide on the polypropylene sleeve and clip shut for a water tight seal. Then, fill with water and place in your freezer for 7-8 hours. The removable bottom portion even acts as a coaster, catching drips as the ice melts.

$34.99 at Brookstone.com.

10. Korky® Toilet Plunger

Believe it or not, when everyone else in my house was ringing in 2007 at the toll of midnight, I was elbow-deep in the bathroom toilet, desperately trying to unclog six hours worth of toilet paper and who knows what else. Take it from me, and don't let that happen to you. There are a few things in life you can't afford to skimp out on, and a good plunger is one of them. I recommend the Original Korky®.

$8.49 at most Ace Hardware stores.

There you have it, folks. Remember, hosting a party isn't as easy as just plugging in your iPod and filling your fridge with cases of beer. If you want your guests to talk about your bashes for years to come, make sure you have the essential mix of functional and hilarious gadgets to keep them coming back for more.

Cheers!
